Partner Organization

Oasis Boliviano is an eco-tourism lodge and organization located 35km from Sucre in Bolivia. Founded in 2016, Oasis operates under the belief that the benefits of their social enterprise should extend to members of the community, Teja Huasi, and surrounding areas. They work on multiple participatory development projects focused on local infrastructure, indigenous knowledge/language preservation, environmental restoration and sustainability. Oasis works collaboratively with local community members to foster sustainable development, promote eco-tourism and emphasize local teachings.

Project Description

Students will work with Oasis Boliviano and the Fundación Solidaridad y Amistad on the implementation of a BioSand Filter (to treat contaminated drinking water) project in rural communities of Chuqisaca. The first phase of the project will take place in the community of Teja Huasi where students will assist in the completion of a BioSand Filter project that has already been initiated in conjunction with the community. After a month in Teja Huasi, students will begin alternating their time between Teja Huasi and other rural communities where FSA works, in order to build and install filters in rural schools as part of an effort to raise awareness about the BioSand Filter as a potentially useful option for water treatment in dispersed rural communities.

You will live in Teja Huasi with a host family in modest conditions. In most cases, you will walk or take public transport to and from your organization.
