strong>

Using a gender+ lens can help deepen our research findings by
considering how gender and sex can produce differential experiences and ar
e shaped by broader structures of power. Having an interest in intersection
al modes of analysis\, however\, is often much simpler than practically imp
lementing these ideas in our research practice. What does it actually mean
to avoid approaching gendered identities as additive? How do we conduct gen
der+ research in our specific disciplinary fields? What theories\, literatu
re\, and methods should we be using?

Facilitated by the authors of OR
ICE’s It’s Not Gender as Usual guide\, we invite you to join this workshop
for a space to work through the practical challenges of conducting gender+
intersectional research. Bring the questions\, concerns\, and curiosities
you have about gender+ as we guide you to workshop challenges you've faced
in your research. This workshop is not meant to provide a singular approach
for how to conduct ‘good research\,’ but instead hopes to provide multiple
entry points for participants to reflect on how gender+ can be applied to
their specific research and disciplinary context alongside like-minded comm
unity members.

Event Facilitators

This event i
s facilitated by Claire Louise Okatch (MPPGA '21 graduate)\, Hannah Facknit
z Sullivan (MA student in History) and Elaina Nguyen (MA student in UBC's S
ocial Justice Institute).
