The UBC Office of Regional and International Community Engagement acknowledges that this event will be held on the traditional, unceded, ancestral territory of the Musqueam people.
The ORICE annual symposium on Global Sustainable Development will take place on October 17th, 2019, offering the UBC and wider Vancouver community the opportunity to come together in conversation. This dialogue aims to critically explore “driving forces” that act as barriers and facilitators to global sustainable development at a systemic, movement and individual level. We hope this dialogue will prompt questions such as what driving forces are creating momentum towards positive change? What driving forces oppose change and maintain the status quo? Ultimately, how can these conversations lead to more sustainable and just community engagement?
Join us for:
- Keynote presentation: Driving Change with Gender Data: building bridges between theory and practice from Dr. Tara Patricia Cookson and Dr. Lorena Fuentes; co-founders of Ladysmith, a feminist research consultancy that helps international organizations collect, analyze and take action on gender data.
- Concurrent presentations from current students and UBC alumni, exploring the symposium theme- “Driving Forces”- considering the multifaceted nature of complex community issues, organizational approaches and the presenters own positionality within community engagement
- A closing reception with refreshments and snacks, providing attendees a chance to mingle and continue discussions
