The Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE) is happy to announce new volunteer position openings for our Action Ambassador Team for the 2019/20 Academic Year. This team plays an important role by supporting ORICE’s annual Global Development Symposium and two other workshops and/or events on themes related to the Sustainable Development Goals. The Action Ambassador Team will work alongside ORICE’s staff to ensure the successful implementation of the events, prepare materials for promotional information, liaise with speakers and provide logistical support.
Commitment is flexible. Interested students can apply to join the Action Team as support for specific events or for ORICE programing throughout first semester with the possibility to continue on to second semester.
Specific Duties
- Identifying possible speakers and moderators for the speaker series events based on the selected themes.
- Designing event format and setting up logistics.
- Communicating with guest speakers to confirm participation, collect biographies and update promo website.
- Preparing PowerPoint signage, pamphlets and bookmarks to promote the speaker series and/or Global Symposium to the UBC community on the Vancouver campus.
- Work in coordination with the ORICE staff and the student leadership team to support the logistics (registration, catering, venue, etc.) and organization of the events.
Qualifications
To be successful in this position, the following listed skills and knowledge are preferred. Students will have the opportunity to further develop these skills in the position.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and apply knowledge to new situations.
- Communication skills (listening, written and verbal), to effect positive organization and time management.
- Interpersonal skills and cross cultural sensitivity. Ability to use these skills and sensitivity in working with students, staff, faculty and community partners throughout all stages of the program.
- Professional attitude, demonstration of integrity, confidentiality and excellent work ethic.
- Some event organization experience preferred.
