Position Summary:
The Communications Assistant, Regional and International Community Engagement will play an important communications role in content creation, coordination and promotion of ORICE’s upcoming regional and international engagement programming. ORICE’s annual programming creates opportunities for UBC students and faculty to learn in international settings, and apply global lenses to today’s most pressing issues, while remaining committed to community-based praxis and bottom-up pedagogies. The ORICE Communications Assistant will provide support in ensuring that key audiences are made aware of this programing and will develop a communications strategy in conveying ORICE’s various course offerings and other initiatives to targeted groups. The position is primarily responsible for communications, including webs content creation, generation of informational materials and knowledge translation, use of social media, email servers, and other communications tools with an aim for promotion and wide, curated reach of informational material. The Communications Assistant, Regional and International Community Engagement will work alongside the staff on the team to ensure the availability of information and strong and appropriate attendance at or enrolment in ORICE’s course offerings, co-curricular opportunities, symposium, speaker series, and other community-engagement events and initiatives. Specific duties may include:
**All ISL/Community Engagement courses and programs have been modified from in-person engagement to on-line engagement during COVID-19, but active community engagement for student programs remain**. Planning for future in-person or hybrid opportunities will also be part of the work below.
- Creating and updating web and print content that provide a menu of different options and pathways for students to include International and Regional community-based experiential learning placements courses into their own learning trajectories.
- Designing creative visual materials for website, promotion and informative purposes.
- Acting as a resource for UBC community members with inquiries about the ORICE’s course offerings and other initiatives, with an aim to minimize barriers to entry and create opportunities for community engagement across disciplines.
- Supporting communications towards the organization, design and delivery of key events and initiatives of the ORICE’s programming including speaker series, ORICE’s annual international development symposium, learning sessions/workshops and other public engagement events.
- Promoting and marketing ORICE’s initiatives within the UBC community, including content creation for ORICE and Faculty of Arts newsletters.
- Maintaining ORICE’s webpages including the design and upkeep of content with upcoming course/event information, and announcements.
- Supporting the development of communication strategies and plans for the Gender+ Research Collective and the Scholars at Risk and Human Rights Collective – two entities embedded within ORICE.
- Fostering and maintaining communication with campus groups, faculty and administrative partners and student groups; including identifying and reaching out to potential partners for co-hosting events, and other collaborations towards ORICE goals.
- Performing general program support.

- Creativity, enthusiasm and commitment
- Ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders and project partners
Education level:
The student that fills this position should be at a senior undergraduate or graduate student level.
Position Fit:
