Apply for a Gender Justice and Community Engagement @UBC Grant! Our next deadline is September 15th, 2019.

Gender Justice and Community Engagement @UBC Grants award up to $1500 for projects that support advocacy for gender equity and the health, rights and well-being of women, girls, 2SLGBTQQIA and all gender-oppressed people.                                      

Applications will be considered at the following deadlines for as long as funds remain available. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as the fund will close once depleted.

Complete grant applications that meet the criteria will be evaluated and recommended for funding by a team of volunteer adjudicators.

BEFORE YOU APPLY: 

Read through our general guidelines to determine whether your project is the right fit for our funding.

1. Your project provides an opportunity to advance the conversation and the public’s engagement around gender equity and the health, rights and well-being of women, girls, 2SLGBTQQIA and all gender-oppressed people                               
2. Your project fosters greater community engagement and capacity-building
3. Your project is designed in partnership

ELIGIBILITY:

• Applicants must be a current student, faculty, staff or UNA resident at UBC.

GUIDELINES:

1. Territorial acknowledgement: Projects must acknowledge the traditional, ancestral and unceded (stolen) territory of the Indigenous people upon which the project/event/publication was brought into being (e.g., at the start of an event, in pamphlets, etc.).
2. Staff, student, faculty, and/or UNA resident must be the lead organizer of funded projects, but external community engagement and partnership is highly encouraged
3. The project can take place on campus or in the Greater Vancouver area
4. Projects must be completed no later than May 31st, 2020 
5. Applicants cannot profit financially from the project. Fundraising events with a strong community-building focus will be assessed for appropriateness.
6. Applicants may only receive funding for one project in this call.
7. Projects must begin after grant decisions are made. Retroactive funding will not be considered. 
8. Activities of groups that serve primarily their membership are ineligible to be funded through grant unless the community at large will benefit significantly. 
9. Grant funds may not be used to replace or supplement UBC departmental funding on activities that are part of the core funding work of an organization (e.g. normal working operations, activities underway regardless of funding). Staff are strongly encouraged to contact us before applying to review their proposal. 
10. Grants are maximum $1500.
11. Grant funds can be used for facility rental, catering (no alcohol), workshop materials, publishing costs, and honorariums. The total amount of honorariums may not exceed more than 50% of the total value of grant award.
12. Funding may not be used for ongoing operational or core expenses, or equipment and furniture purchases, hiring UBC students, payment of salaries or wages, fees for UBC faculty, students, or staff to attend conferences, network events, etc. Funding will also not be provided for activities that do not include at least one off-campus and /or one on-campus partner (appropriate representatives are not identified). 
13. Please provide specific details of all expenses that will be funded through the grant. Be sure to explore ways to reduce costs by lending items through campus resources.
14. Original receipts are required to be submitted upon completion of the project. (See below for final report requirements). Any unused funds must be returned at the end of the project . A receipt should be included with your final report.

Grant recipients will be asked to provide the following documentation:

• A brief description of who was involved, what happened, what needs were filled or impacts made.
• Up to three “lessons learned” (brief bullets) for others involved in public engagement activities designed to promote gender equity and the health, rights and well-being of women, girls, 2SLGBTQQIA, and all gender-oppressed people..
• Three pictures with captions that help tell the story of the project.
• Documentation may be submitted via email in written or video format. Recipients are asked to submit documentation within one month of wrap up.
