Position Summary
** All international/regional community programs have been modified to respond to COVID-19 but ORICE remains actively engaged in course and co-curricular development with community partners worldwide**
The Program Assistant, Regional and International Community Engagement for the Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE) will play an important role for the unit by liaising with communities and community partners who are part of student learning programs; be that internships, remote projects or by bringing in cases studies to classrooms. The ORICE Program Assistant, will work alongside the staff in the office to ensure the successful implementation of program activities through: responding to student inquiries; working within a project management framework to organize, design and deliver key events in the ISL program cycle; preparing materials for promotional workshops and information sessions; delivering workshops and information sessions to undergraduate students; providing support to ORICE staff with the recruitment selection, pre-departure, in-field support of student participants; preparing reports; assisting with campus outreach; performing general office support.
Specific duties may include:
- Acting as key resource people for students with inquiries about ORICE programs.
- Working within a project management framework to organize, design and deliver key events in the community-engaged course program cycle such as student participant selection days, group learning sessions and public engagement events.
- Preparing presentations, briefs and content for workshops and information sessions that will be used to promote our programs to undergraduate students on the Vancouver campus.
- Providing support to ORICE staff with the recruitment selection, preparation, in-project support of student program participants.
- Preparing documents detailing logistical information around remote student engagementships and orientations.
- Supporting the program planning and delivery for activities in the Gender+ Research Collective, and the Scholars at Risk and Human Rights Collective – both of which are embedded in ORICE.
- Performing general program support.
- Coordination of meetings for regional and international partners with faculty and students.
- Communicating with regional and international community organization staff about course details and student placement information.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and apply knowledge to new situations.
- Communication skills (listening, written and verbal), to effect positive student-community placement relations, facilitation and negotiation skills, organization and time management, and presentation skills.
- Interpersonal skills and cross-cultural sensitivity. Ability to use these skills and sensitivity in working with students, staff, faculty and community partners throughout all stages of the program.
- Professional attitude, demonstration of integrity, confidentiality and excellent work ethic.
- Interest in experiential education pedagogies.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks at the same time.
- Some evening and weekend work will be required as necessary.
Education level:
The student that fills this position should be at a senior undergraduate or graduate student level.
Position Fit:

- Experience as a participant or staff within a community-based learning program
- Demonstrated experience working with community-based organizations; experience working with marginalized populations or in an international placement or setting is an asset.
- Demonstrated administrative and office management skills
- Desire to work both independently and as part of a team
