a symposium on international development
This annual symposium on International Development provides the UBC and wider Vancouver community the opportunity to come together to engage in dialogue and to critically explore the role of connection & complexity in international development activities.
On October 21st, 2017, UBC students returning from recent 3 month international service learning (ISL) placements will share their experiences, learning, and lingering questions at a post-engagement symposium. This year’s symposium- “connection & complexity” considers the multifaceted connections made, approaches taken, and challenges explored within community engagement.
The symposium will feature:
- An opening address that will highlight a panel of ISL alumni’s experiences with connection & complexity in community development
- Pranav Chintalapati
- Nidhi Joseph
- Kathleen Tanner
- Paige Zhang
- Concurrent student presentations showcasing student learning
- A closing reception for all attendees. This will give attendees a chance to mingle and continue discussions.

This event is open to the public. Registration is necessary.
If possible, spaces will be available for registration on the day of the event, but they are not guaranteed. To avoid disappointment, please register in advance to ensure a space at the event.

The main entrance to the Henry Angus Building, on the east side of the building, has ramp access and is level and accessible with a power door. Accessible elevators are available. Keynote presentation room (Henry Angus 098) is accessible by elevator equipped with an automatic door opener and a key-less wheelchair lift. Breakout rooms are also accessible by elevator.
