Engage in conversation with community partner organizations and members from the UBC community to share, discuss, and reflect on what it means to be a woman. From March 22nd-25th follow UBC ORICE on Instagram as we connect with women across the world and learn about the work they are doing in their communities and the impact that COVID-19 has had on their work. On March 26th join in the conversation, in a virtual space of connection, with the UBC community as we share, discuss, and reflect on what it looks like to be a woman.
🟠 Introducing our partners for this week’s event, Work in Progress!
ਤਕਦੀਰ ਕੌਰ Taqdir Kaur (or simply Taq), is the CEO of @imwithperiods and Digi-prof at UBC & Dalhousie U. She focuses her research on health professions education and menstrual health. Her days primarily consist of research, writing, and teaching. She is now physically based in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Mi’kmaw Territories after spending many years living in Vancouver. Her ancestors and family are from the Punjab region of India/Pakistan. She is passionate about nachos & nach (dance)!
Iyol Martínez (they/she) is a queer and non-binary migrant settler currently living in the unceded traditional territories of the Kwikwetlem, Musqueam, Squamish, Stó:lō and Tsleil-Waututh, and originally from Mexico-Tenochtitlan (Mexico City). Iyol hopes to work towards building community with other queer and trans migrants, while also maintaining trans-national solidarity with folks back home.
Anna Manuel is a current UBC student studying in the International Relations program. She is the President of the UN GirlUp chapter in Abbotsford, BC (@girlupabbotsford) and is super passionate about creating equal opportunities for girls and womxn around the world. She loves working to educate herself and others about social issues. In her free time, she loves adventuring with her dog and listening to music.
