Please consider supporting ORICE during UBC Giving Day on April 6th

Update: We did it! Thank you to everyone who donated to UBC Giving Day– we are so grateful for your support. With your help, we exceeded our challenge goal and unlocked an additional $850 for the ORICE Experiential Education Accessibility Award! A total of $2,757 was raised from 37 donors in our community which will fund the award to increase equity in participation for all students in our programs.

For UBC Giving Day last year, we issued a small challenge to our community.  The challenge was that if $500 was raised, Tamara Baldwin, our director, would match with $500 to provide a few honorariums to students who want to participate in ORICE courses, research or co-curricular programs.  The fund specifically was piloted to acknowledge that students who are part of historically, persistently, or systematically marginalized groups often face additional barriers to participation, and this fund aimed to reduce the direct or indirect financial burden of participating in opportunities beyond traditional academic courses.  We met that match challenge last year, and we were able to award $500 to three students in the pilot program through the ORICE Experiential Education Accessibility Award!  We are now looking to embed (and expand) this funding opportunity to enhance participation equity in ORICE programs.

As part of UBC Giving Day on April 6th, a few staff faculty members have joined in to create a matching fund of $850.  If 25 people donate $20 or more, the match challenge fund will be unlocked. Donations can be made here https://givingday.ubc.ca/23105/givingday2022/131544/orice.  Charitable donation tax receipts will be provided.   Please also consider encouraging friends, family, or colleagues to support this challenge.

Thank you for your support.
