About

Gaylean Davies (she/her) is the Advisor of the Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE) at UBC. She has worked in the non-profit and academic spheres for over a decade. Gaylean has worked for various BC-based organizations in cancer care, recognizing excellence in arts and business, and housing alongside completing her BA in Psychology at UBC, and an MA in Sociology (International Development / Gender) at McGill in Montreal. Gaylean has more recently returned to UBC to pursue her PhD in Resources, Environment, and Sustainability focused on water and women’s empowerment.

Gaylean has been involved with ORICE since 2014 through participating in an International Service Learning experience in Nairobi, Kenya – this sparked her desire to work on gender and development moving forward. Since then, Gaylean has remained engaged with ORICE as a peer mentor and was more recently involved in guiding the work of the Collective for Gender+ in Research. Outside of work, Gaylean is heavily involved in her community: volunteering with the BC Achievement Foundation, with seniors through Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, and others. Pre-covid, she was an avid cyclist, rower, and swimmer and looks forward to returning to UBC on two wheels and heading down to the ocean after work!
